GUANDAN: THE STRATEGIC CARD GAME FROM JIANGSU
Guandan is a beloved card game originating from Jiangsu Province, China, particularly popular in cities like Nanjing and Yangzhou. Played by four people using two decks of cards, this team-based game emphasizes strategy and cooperation. The objective? Be the first to play all your cards by skillfully coordinating with your partner and outplaying the opposing team.
HOW IT WORKS
Card Types
The game features single cards, pairs, straights, consecutive pairs, three-of-a-kinds, and bombs (four cards of the same rank). These card combinations are similar to those in the popular game Landlord, with a few twists.
Play Order
The round starts with the winner of the previous game playing first, and play continues counterclockwise. Each player must either beat the current play with a higher combination or choose to pass.
Teamwork
Guandan is all about working together. Partners must strategize and coordinate to overcome the opposing team, making teamwork essential.
Promotion System
Winning rounds gives players advantages in future games, such as earning the right to play first in the next round.
THE GAME’S GOAL
The aim in Guandan is simple: be the first to get rid of all your cards. Strategic cooperation with your teammate is key to suppressing opponents, winning rounds, and ultimately securing victory.
